Introduction / Background

NALA is an application that acts as an interface on top of the mobile money payment systems that allows the user to make transfers, payments, and transactions seven times faster, without data connectivity.

Nala’s founder and CEO Benjamin Fernandes grew up in Tanzania and left for America at 17 to pursue his dreams. He was the youngest African to be accepted to the Stanford Graduate School of Business and was afforded a scholarship to the Harvard Kennedy School of Government.

After working for the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation he returned to Tanzania to launch NALA Money Manager.

An ambitious and talented team based in Tanzania helped us build a community of thousands and become Tanzania’s #1 free personal finance app.

They’ve grown to a small but mighty 11 people across 7 countries, each with a personal connection to Africa and a wealth of experience at companies like Osper, Morningstar and Monzo.
